Gases have played an important role in natural sciences since ancient times. The term “gas” has its origin in the Greek word “cháos”, which describes quite well the random movement of gas molecules and their tendency to spread in any direction. Basically, a substance is called a gas when its particles move freely in space, filling any available space. After the discovery of carbon dioxide by Johan Baptista van Helmont in the first half of the 17th century, more and more gases were identified, so that this branch of science continued to develop. Today it is a multi faceted field of science.
The Compur guidebooks provide a factfile of particularly toxic or flammable gases and vapors. It describes important chemical properties, potential dangers and first aid.
Whoever is dealing with hazardous substances runs the risk of being exposed to them. Personnel handling dangerous gases must understand the substances’ properties and the potential risk of exposure. Furthermore there are topics such as the historical classification of gases and information on the production and detection of such substances. Some guides are already available, we are working in order to provide more information. The guides provide an exciting insight into the chemical properties and interesting facts.
