Compur Monitors – one of the leading gas detector manufacturers

Wherever gas is used, the safety of human life must take centre stage. This applies to the surroundings of pipes, tanks and processing plants. To ensure this safety, continuous gas measurements are required, either with stationary or mobile measuring devices. These must fulfil or exceed all current standards.

Compur began developing and building gas detection devices back in the late 1970s and has been focussing entirely on gas detection technology since 1984 under the name Compur Monitors. Many years of experience and intensive research work have repeatedly led to innovative, if not revolutionary, results. Customers and their requirements are at the centre of the development and manufacturing process.

We can confidently say that we have made history in the field of gas measurements and will continue to do so. With the Statox 560, for example, we recently launched a device with an integrated gas generator that not only fulfils all the usual safety requirements, but also regularly uses gas to check the functionality of the sensor and all other components. This makes the Statox 560 the safest device of its kind.

Sense and purpose of gas measurements

Toxic and flammable gases pose a permanent threat to human life and health as well as to the existence of industrial plants and other gas-processing production facilities. Therefore, measurements are always required in order to quickly recognise any imminent dangers and prevent possible damage. Compur Monitors offers mobile and stationary gas detectors for almost all areas of application.

What a gas analyser must be able to do

The requirements for gas detectors are diverse. The products from gas detector manufacturer Compur Monitors impress with their reliable measurement of gas concentrations using intelligent, high-performance sensors. Absolute precision – in the long term – is necessary to detect even the smallest quantities of harmful gases in the ambient air. The devices should also be able to detect as many different hazardous substances as possible. Not only methane, hydrogen sulphide or carbon monoxide and similar substances are dangerous. Oxygen, which is essential for life, can also have serious consequences if the concentration is too low or too high. Below 18%, there is a health risk due to oxygen deficiency. If the content rises to more than 24% by volume, oil-soaked cloths, for example, can ignite spontaneously and cause a fire, which is then accelerated by the high oxygen content in the air.

We see every customer request as an exciting challenge that we tackle with all our innovative strength.

The market

The safety of employees in the workplace is the sole responsibility of the plant operator. However, the use of gas detectors is not regulated by law. The Technical Guidelines for Hazardous Substances have been issued for their use. These provide valuable recommendations from the employers’ liability insurance associations. These guidelines also contain the applicable limit values.
