The Statox 560 MUX Communicator – the money-saving machine
The Statox 560 tests itself with the gas to be measured. This self-test can be triggered manually or activated automatically every 24 hours. The measuring head therefore contains very detailed information about the status of the sensor. Of course, you would also like to have this information available in the control room, but cables cost money!
To transmit all the status signals and supply the measuring head with enough power for operation, you would actually need a very high-quality ten-core cable. The user does not want to spend money on this. They want to get by with as few wires as possible, ideally using the two-wire cable already laid for the previous model. This is exactly where the Statox 560 MUX Communicator comes in. It consists of two components: A small ballast on site, integrated into the junction box, and one in the control centre.
The device on site encodes the digital status signals and sets the voltage back to 24 V DC. The device in the control centre decodes the status signals and raises the supply voltage slightly so that enough energy can be transported for operation. All this also in the Ex area and according to SIL 2 standard. As you have very precise information about the condition of the sensor in this way, you can maximise the intervals for the proof test and calibration. This saves valuable time and money.
